Q-Fever

Q fever is a disease caused by infection with the Coxiella burnetii bacteria, with symptoms similar to the flu.

Individuals most at risk are those who work with livestock such as ; meat processing, veterinarians, shearers and dairy farmers.

The Q fever vaccine, called the Q-Vax, offers a high level of protection against Q fever and is recommended for individuals who are at a greater risk of getting Q fever. We have a doctor, Dr Sam Komakech, who has undertaken extra training and is able to administer the Q-Vax.
